Leica Conversations: The Impact of an Origin Story with Joel Meyerowitz Hosted by Hugh Brownstone

Leica Conversations programs continue with legendary photographer and Leica Oskar Barnack Award Juror Joel Meyerowitz. An early advocate and pioneer in the use of color, Joel is one of the most influential photographers of his generation. From the streets of New York to Cape Cod, Tuscany and Ground Zero on 9/11, there is much to be learned from his life's journey in photography.

Joel will sit down with guest host, Hugh Brownstone for a look back that is sure to be pure magic.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) is a nomination-only, jury-driven photography competition designed to recognize and honor photographers whose “unerring powers of observation capture and express the relationship between man and the environment in the most graphic form.” In a break from past practice, nominees are asked to submit a minimum of 15 images up to a maximum of 20 – in short, a body of work.

“My experience during the jurying of the LOBA competition was often uplifting. I saw a diverse and serious range of works covering the human condition as it was perceived by these artists, and we, the jurors, were expressive and honest in our discussions about the works. I’m happy to have been a part of it.” - Joel Meyerowitz
